Classical Music Highlights

From WSHU's daytime and evening classical programs, Kate Remington and Lauren Rico give you a heads-up on some of the best music they've selected.

The American Film Institute lists On the Waterfront as the eight greatest film of all time.  Tonight we'll enjoy a suite from the score by Leonard Bernstein.

John Adams puts a modern spin on some favorite old dances including the Habanera.  We'll enjoy selections from "John's Book of Alleged Dances" today.

Both Beethoven and Handel were brilliant improvisers, as we'll hear in the variations they wrote on simple melodies in the "Eroica" Symphony, and the Harmonious Blacksmith.

George Chadwick borrowed a comfy hammock during his vacation on Nantucket to write his Quintet for Piano and Strings.  We'll enjoy it this morning.

Tonight we'll enjoy a concerto by Vivaldi, from the new album featuring mandolin virtuoso Avi Avital.
