The planned offshore wind farm in eastern Long Island will require cables to come to shore to transport electricity from the turbines to homes. But residents and activists don’t want construction in their neighborhoods.

New England commercial fishermen have one of the most dangerous jobs in the country. Now, they’re worried new offshore wind farms will make things worse. Construction is set to begin this year on the country’s first large scale offshore wind project. Most of the attention has focused on jobs and the economy, but the fishermen say they’re also worried about safety.

Members of the Connecticut House of Representatives have authorized the state to buy 2,000 megawatts of power from wind generated sources by 2030.
