Connecticut’s two Democratic U.S. senators have joined the call for Senate Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to schedule a vote on the $2,000 stimulus checks. McConnell has blocked a Democratic attempt to pass the bill by unanimous consent.

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut wants the Trump administration to crack down on drug companies that have not held up their legal obligations to uninsured residents.

The head of the Connecticut Restaurant Association said that many local restaurants in the state are not making enough to break even heading into the holiday season.

Executive Director Scott Dolch said that anywhere from 1,000 to 1,500 restaurants could shut down in the coming weeks.

“People are staying open right now for their staff. They’re not staying open beyond that. They’re staying open because they’re like, ‘I can’t put them back on unemployment again heading into the holidays. They got families,'” Dolch said.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said it could be forced to cut the Metro-North commuter rail service by up to 50 percent if it doesn’t get additional federal assistance.

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont has urged state residents to avoid a rush to the stores for the traditional Black Friday sales.

He said retailers have extended their Black Friday sales over the next few weeks because of the COVID-19 pandemic. And most of the sales are also available online.
