The Catholic Church is undergoing another moment of crisis. Once again, the legacy of sexual abuse in the church is at the heart of the crisis.    

This time His Holiness, Pope Francis, is a target. In a letter, Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, called on the Pope and others to step down because, he says, they knew about the sexual abuse by ex-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick of Washington, D.C., and chose to cover it up.

With less than three weeks until the gubernatorial primaries in Connecticut, the candidates for both the Republican and Democratic nominations met this week for separate debates on the campus of Sacred Heart University. 

After the debates, moderator Ken Dixon of the Hearst Connecticut Media Grou; and panelists WSHU reporter Ebong Udoma and Hearst Connecticut Media Group political reporter Kaitlyn Krasselt provided some analysis. Veteran Connecticut broadcaster Larry Rifkin moderated their discussion. Hear what they had to say.

Connecticut’s economy is anything but boring. Revenue streams are fluctuating with a very volatile stock market. Last month the state was facing a $200 million deficit for this fiscal year. Now, state officials say, much to their surprise, there’s a $1 billion surplus.

A new poll shows that two-thirds of Connecticut residents support the idea of charter schools. That’s one of the findings of the poll from the Public Policy Institute at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn., about the current state of public education.
