Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestras

This past season has been unusual for many performing ensembles, including the Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestras, which chose not one, but two winners of its concerto competition. Kate talks with the two winners: Henry Friedman, french horn, and Jack Campbell, cello, and the Music Director of the GCTYO, Christopher Hisey.

Violinist Alison Shively was the winner of this year's Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestras' concerto competion. Alison performed a movement of the Brahms Violin Concerto. She would have been the featured soloist at the GCTYO's Spring Concert on May 17th, but the concert has been cancelled due to COVID-19. Kate Remington talks with Alison and GCTYO Director Chris Hisey about getting rready for the competition, Alison's music career so far and her future plans.

Violin virtuoso Lara St. John will be the soloist in the Sibelius Violin Concerto with the principal orchestra of the Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestras at their concert on Sunday, November 24th at the Klein in Bridgeport.
