Republican U.S. Congressman Lee Zeldin of eastern Long Island has announced he will seek the GOP nomination to run for governor of New York against Democratic incumbent Andrew Cuomo in 2022.

Connecticut cities and towns will be getting funds to prepare for unprecedented demand for absentee ballots ahead of Election Day. Grants will also be available for safety and hygiene at polling locations and to help with same-day election registrations.

President Trump visited Kenosha, Wis., on Tuesday, a city roiled by unrest following the police shooting of Jacob Blake last month in a state seen as crucial to Trump's reelection prospects in November.

Trump went to an emergency management center, met with police and toured a section of the city damaged by rioting that followed the shooting of the 29-year-old Black man.

The national conventions are a week-long spectacle for the major political parties to formally nominate their candidates for President. Last week, Joe Biden celebrated the Democratic nomination, and President Trump is expected to accept the Republican nomination on Thursday at the White House.
