The president of the community group Cops N Kids Long Island is planning to file a lawsuit against Suffolk County Police for physical and verbal abuse.

Police reform advocates said Suffolk County is still conducting certain traffic searches that were banned in March as part of state-mandated police reform. According to police data, these searches have disproportionately impacted Black and Hispanic drivers.

Nassau County police announced the purchase of 2,500 body cameras for about $2.5 million and millions more in annual data storage costs. The department said 1,700 Nassau police officers will be outfitted with cameras.
