U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin of Long Island joined more than 140 House Republicans to object to the certification of electoral college votes that confirm Democrat Joe Biden as president.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi informed House lawmakers that Congress will reconvene Wednesday night to continue its constitutional duty to count and certify the electoral votes after pro-Trump protestors breached the Capitol and forced Capitol Police to evacuate both the House and Senate.

New York has certificated its election results this week — a month after Election Day due to a record number of absentee ballots that needed to be processes. The counting of those ballots only began days after polling locations closed in many local governments, including on Long Island.

Suffolk County election officials say Republican U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin has won re-election against Democratic challenger Nancy Goroff in the race for New York’s 1st Congressional District on eastern Long Island.

The Associated Press has not yet called the race. The Goroff campaign said it is waiting for all ballots to be counted.
