Wedding venues and vendors on Long Island rallied in front of Suffolk County administrative buildings to urge New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to lighten restrictions on banquet events due to COVID-19.
Riverhead Town Councilwoman Jodi Giglio organized the event. She says they want venues to open at 50 percent capacity — the same as restaurants.
“An industry of happiness and memories has been crushed. There needs to be a light at the end of the tunnel. The postponement of weddings is crushing the dreams of a fairytale wedding,” Giglio said.
Catering halls can only hold events with up to 50 people present — no matter how large the facility.
A venue in eastern Long Island was one of 16 more bars and restaurants statewide that had their liquor licenses suspended last week for breaking the rules.
