Former Vice President Joe Biden has won Tuesday’s Democratic primary in New York, even though nearly 2 million absentee ballots have yet to be counted. That could take a few more days, or even weeks.
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders was also on the ballot, but he suspended his campaign in April.
On Long Island, preliminary results of the primary show Democrat Perry Gershon has a narrow lead over Nancy Goroff to challenge Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin.
In the race to replace Republican Congressman Peter King, who will retire, Republican Andrew Garbarino and Democrat Jackie Gordon are the top contending candidates. Republican George Santos will challenge Democratic Congressman Tom Suozzi, and Democratic Congresswoman Kathleen Rice will face Republican Douglas Tuman.
Democrat Laura Ahearn is ahead of Valerie Cartright in the race to challenge Republican Anthony Palumbo for state Senator Ken LaValle’s seat on the North Fork. Lavalle is retiring.
