Attorneys for three Connecticut high school athletes who are suing the state say a judge should recuse himself for not letting them refer to two transgender girls as male.
The high school track athletes who brought the lawsuit say they were denied titles because they were competing against two transgender girls. They’re represented by the Alliance Defending Freedom, an Arizona-based religious defense fund.
A federal judge asked an attorney not to refer to the transgender girls as male, which he said was consistent with science and human decency. Attorneys for the ADF say the judge’s request destroys the appearance of impartiality in his judgment.
The transgender girls at the center of the lawsuit are represented by the ACLU of Connecticut.
