Lamont To Trump: Refugees Welcome In Connecticut

Dec 12, 2019

Governor Ned Lamont told U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that Connecticut will continue to welcome refugees.

Lamont’s letter is in response to an executive order issued by President Donald Trump in September. Trump’s order requires every state and municipality in the country willing to receive refugees provide his administration with written consent.

In his response, Lamont says Connecticut will continue to accept refugees fleeing persecution and seeking safety from violence. He says Connecticut values the long history of the United States welcoming people seeking asylum. He says the tradition strengthens the state and the nation.

Lamont encourages elected leaders of Connecticut’s cities and towns to also provide letters of consent.
