Increase In Absentee Ballot Voting In Long Island School Board Elections

Jun 18, 2020

Preliminary data of Tuesday’s school board elections in New York show an increase of absentee voter participation.

The final count has not been released, but tens of thousands of residents submitted their ballots by mail on Long Island. Over two million Long Islanders were automatically sent absentee ballots last month.

Participation in the school board election and budget votes more than doubled from last year on eastern Long Island.

This week’s mail-in vote was largely viewed as a test run of the state’s primary election next week. While polling centers will be open, voters are encouraged to request absentee ballots.
