DOJ Files Suit Against Long Island Robocall Carriers

Jan 30, 2020

The U.S. Department of Justice has filed civil actions against three Long Island telecommunications companies for carrying illegal robocalls.

The department alleges the companies are “gateway carriers” for fraudulent calls. The calls threaten “catastrophic government actions” such as deportation, arrest for tax fraud and termination of social security benefits.

The civil action comes after the passage of federal and state laws that increase robocall restrictions. The Justice Department says the defendants ignored several red flags and warnings about the robocalls.
