A cybersecurity expert is warning consumers shopping online this Cyber Monday to be vigilant. He advises people traveling not to shop online at an airport or coffee shop.
Fred Scholl, director of the graduate cybersecurity program at Quinnipiac University, says his motto for shopping online is: Only the paranoid survive.
“Don’t go to Starbucks with your portable phone and start shopping online. Then when you actually get in the websites themselves, you should go to, for the most part, trusted sites that you’ve used before.”
Scholl says everyone is looking for a bargain on Cyber Monday so there is likely to be an increase in malicious attacks by phishing emails and fake websites that pop up only for a few hours to avoid being brought down by law enforcement.
