Connecticut Officials Stepped In To Allow People With COVID To Vote In Stamford

Nov 4, 2020

Connecticut elections officials intervened in Stamford after reports that people with COVID-19 couldn’t get emergency ballots.

The state Elections Enforcement Commission issued a cease and desist order in an emergency meeting late Tuesday afternoon.

“This Cease and Desist order would be issued to the town clerks of Stamford, Connecticut," the order read. "Greetings. The commission is in possession of evidence that your office is … failing to fulfill your duty to provide an absentee ballot for applicants with unforeseen illnesses.”

The Hartford Courant reports at least two people with COVID-19 tried to get emergency absentee ballots but were denied. They were able to vote after the intervention.
