Connecticut is one of the most expensive housing markets in the nation. That’s according to a new report from the National Low Income Housing Coalition, which analyzed the most recent available data from 2019.
Local advocates said the cost to rent or buy a home has only gotten worse for the most vulnerable families during the pandemic. Kiely Gosslein is executive director of Partnership for Strong Communities in Hartford.
“The number of lower income households, disproportionately households of color, who’ve been negatively affected by this pandemic are high. We’ve seen job loss, or underemployment, and that’s going to disproportionately affect households on the lower end of that income spectrum” Gosslein said.
Gosslein said Connecticut’s real estate market boomed at the same time, making it even harder to afford a place to live during the pandemic.
