Connecticut Driver's Licenses Add Non-Binary Gender Option

Jan 27, 2020

Starting Monday, the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles is allowing a non-binary gender designation on driver’s licenses.

The non-binary option will be denoted by the letter X, according to Hearst Connecticut Media.

The department’s deputy commissioner says the goal is to be fair to everyone and respect peoples’ gender identity.

Connecticut is now one of 12 states that allow non-binary gender identification on driver’s licenses. The department warned the gender designation on Connecticut IDs may not be accepted in other states.
