A former altar boy on Long Island has filed a lawsuit against St. Mary’s College Preparatory High School in Manhasset over a sexual abuse allegation in the early 1980s.

Steven Gormley alleges his former guidance counselor Brother Robert Ryan sexually assaulted him for years when Steven was 13 years old according to the 30-page lawsuit.

Ryan died three years ago. He was an ordained member of the Marist Brothers who ran the school.

Gormley’s lawsuit was filed at state under the Child Victims Act. The state law allows those who say they were abused as children to be able to sue their alleged abuser.

The case was filed at state Supreme Court in Nassau County.
