Conn. Primary Election Races We're Watching

Results from Tuesday’s primary election in Connecticut have trickled in. Election officials expect many absentee ballots won’t be counted for days, if not weeks.

Races we're watching...

  • Connecticut voters rubber stamped presumptive nominees Donald Trump and Joe Biden for president.
  • Republican Mary Fay has declared victory and will challenge Democratic Congressman John Larson for the state’s 1st congressional district.
  • The Republican primary for the 2nd Congressional district to challenge Congressman Joe Courtney is likely going to a recount. Candidates Justin Anderson and Thomas Gilmer are neck-and-neck, despite Gilmer pulling out of the race last minute after he was arrested Monday on domestic violence charges. (The state GOP would be allowed to nominate another candidate, if Gilmer wins and drops out.)

...in the Connecticut General Assembly

  • Voters picked Democrat Jorge Cabrera to challenge Republican State Senator George Logan of Ansonia.
  • Republican Kim Healy will challenge Democrat State Senator Will Haskell of Westport.
  • State Representative Brandon McGee, vice chair of the Black and Puerto Rican Caucus, held on to his Hartford seat in the Democratic primary.
  • Democrat Manny Sanchez will challenge Republican Alden Russell for the open state House seat in New Britain.

...in Bridgeport

  • Democratic State Senator Marlyin Moore defeated challenger Marcus Brown.
  • Republican Ethan Book is ahead of George Borges to challenge Democratic State Representative Christopher Rosario.
  • Democratic State Representative Charlie Stallworth won his primary.
  • Democrat Antonio Felipe is ahead of Kelvin Ayala in the race to challenge Republican State Representative Terry Sullivan.
