Connecticut will pay six private labs more than $60 million over the next year to do coronavirus testing.
Purchase orders obtained by the Hartford Courant show the largest contract of $25 million is with Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine based in Farmington. Hartford Hospital and Yale New Haven Health Services were also awarded contracts.
The contracts require that testing results are available within 24 hours.
Governor Ned Lamont had said the state would increase testing capacity to 100,000 tests a week, but testing efforts have shifted to assist the state’s most vulnerable urban communities.
Bridgeport already has a pop-up testing program in several church parking lots.
The state expects the federal government to cover the cost of COVID-19 testing in Connecticut.
