Data: 73 Connecticut Police Officers Have Been Decertified Over Misconduct

A USA Today database shows 73 Connecticut police officers lost their law enforcement certification due to misconduct from 1988 through 2017.

Police in Connecticut are certified through a state-run standards and training council after they’ve gone through basic training.

Most officers lost their certifications because they were convicted of felonies. Among them are several members of the East Haven Police Department. East Haven was monitored by the Justice Department from 2012 to 2017 after federal authorities found police systematically discriminated against Latinos.

Other police were decertified for making false statements, worker’s comp fraud and tampering with evidence.

Davis Dunavin loves telling stories, whether on the radio or around the campfire. He started in Missouri and ended up in Connecticut, which, he'd like to point out, is the same geographic trajectory taken by Mark Twain.
