More than a 100,000 pounds of food was distributed to Long Island residents on Friday as part of a statewide initiative.
Five thousand Long Islanders showed up to get food donations via drive-through in Bay Shore.
Randi Shubin Dresner, president of Island Harvest Food Bank, says the pandemic didn’t give a lot of people time to prepare.
“The floor got pulled out from most people. Even if people had really wonderful jobs and great family income, when the floor gets pulled out from underneath you, it’s really difficult to continue and put three meals a day on the table for your family.”
She says everyone drove away with 25 pounds of fresh produce, dairy and meat.
