Boutique Gym Owners Push Back On Restrictions

Nearly 1,600 people have signed a petition to ease gym restrictions in Connecticut ahead of reopening next week.

Connecticut gyms will be allowed to reopen at 50% capacity, as long as people wear masks and stay six feet apart. People who choose not to wear a mask while exercising need to stay 12 feet apart.

Bridget McBride owns a small gym in Fairfield. She says the restrictions are unrealistic for both her staff and her clients.

“Is it safe for people to be wearing masks working out? We don’t think so. We think we’re responsible, our space is clean, it’s safe and we feel that if indoor dining can happen at six feet apart, then responsible exercising can as well.”

McBride says that under Connecticut’s current restrictions, her gym could only accommodate five people at a time. That’s 20% capacity.
