A judge in New York has lifted a temporary restraining order against the Shinnecock Indian Nation that had prevented the tribe from finishing work on a second billboard along Sunrise Highway.

Lance Gumbs, the tribe’s vice chairman, says the billboards have become a valuable source of revenue.

“This was a victory for the nation. This is one of our first economic development projects that would bring real revenue into the nation.”

The tribe has worked with local officials to spread health and sanitation awareness using the billboards during the pandemic.
