Five Connecticut nursing homes weren’t prepared for COVID-19, according to inspection reports by the state Department of Public Health.
The five nursing homes are in Chester, East Haven, Orange, Seymour and Waterford. Together they account for 77 COVID-19 deaths in the state.
The reports are part of a statewide inspection of all the state’s nursing homes. They found the facilities had inadequate infection prevention plans – they didn’t separate residents – and they failed to use protective gear correctly.
A nursing home in Milford was also cited for failing to inform a resident’s family on changes in their condition.
Nursing home residents make up more than half of all COVID-19 deaths in Connecticut.
