Here’s the latest on the coronavirus outbreak in the region:
Banks and credit unions in New York and Connecticut say they are having trouble submitting loan applications to the federal government since the portal for the Paycheck Protection Program crashed after opening on Monday.
COVID-19 antibody test results in New York suggests that 15% of the state’s population might have been infected with the novel coronavirus.
For the second day in a row, deaths in New York have fallen below 400. New cases also continue to drop statewide, to nearly 4,000 additional cases. On Long Island, 750 new cases and in Westchester County, 340 more cases.
In Connecticut, COVID-19 has killed 2,000 people; 74 more deaths were recorded Monday. Fewer people have been hospitalized for five straight days. New cases continue to decline in Fairfield and New Haven Counties.
A group that represents non-profit nursing homes in the state welcomes more inspections of their facilities but says a lack of staffing continues to be a concern. Half of all virus-related deaths in Connecticut are nursing home residents.
