Mask Orders In Place In Conn. And N.Y.; Protest Held In Hartford Over Business Closures

Here’s the latest on the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak in the region:

Connecticut residents now have to wear masks in public. New Yorkers have been required to do so since Friday.

Hundreds of protestors drove around the state Capitol in Hartford and the governor’s residence Monday to rally against the shutdown of business in Connecticut. Organizers included the Libertarian Party of Connecticut.

Connecticut has at least 19,800 cases with over 1,300 deaths. 8,300 of the cases are in Fairfield County, and more than 5,200 are in New Haven County.

New York has over 247,500 with more than 14,300 deaths. Long Island has over 58,200, and Westchester County has 24,300. 

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has asked the federal government to provide hazard pay to essential public workers.
