A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter flies overhead as the USNS Comfort, a naval hospital ship with a 1,000-bed capacity, docks at Pier 90, last week in New York.

Here’s the latest on the coronavirus outbreak in the region:

The USNS Comfort, the 1,000-bed Navy hospital ship in New York Harbor will now be used for COVID-19 patients.

Schools and non-essential businesses in New York will remain closed until April 29.

New York has more than 130,690 confirmed cases — with nearly 28,000 cases on Long Island.  Westchester County has over 14,400 cases. New York City has 72,180 cases. Nearly 4,760 people have died statewide.

Connecticut has over 6,900 confirmed cases — with over 3,700 cases in Fairfield County. At least 206 people have died statewide.

Researchers predict COVID-19 could kill as many as 5,500 Connecticut residents by August.

Connecticut officials will open the Westfield Care & Rehab Center in Meriden as a 120-bed long-term care facility for nursing home patients who have tested positive for COVID-19.
