A 250-bed FEMA mobile hospital has been set up on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven. It’s part of the state’s effort to increase hospital bed capacity in anticipation of a surge of COVID-19 admissions.
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont says the facility will be used for recovering COVID-19 patients.
“At some point because we’ve got all of our hospitals working as one system, not individually, we are going to be able to offload some of their demand to facilities like this. Opening more space in southern Connecticut for more intensive ICU situations.”
The field hospital will be managed by Yale New Haven Hospital and will be staffed mainly by retired medical personnel who have volunteered to come back to work.
Lamont says similar field hospitals are to be set up in Stamford, and on the campus of Central Connecticut State University in New Britain.
