New York has postponed its April presidential primary amid the COVID-19 outbreak. Governor Andrew Cuomo says voters will be able to cast their ballots on June 23.
"I don't think it's wise to be bringing a lot of people to one location to vote. A lot of people touching one doorknob, a lot of people touching one pen, whatever you call it – device – on the ballots. So, we are going to delay that.”
Some New York lawmakers want to expand the state’s strict absentee ballot rules to allow voting by mail during the health emergency.
The new primary date in New York is after the Democratic National Committee cutoff for states to hold voting. That means the DNC could cut half of the state’s delegates as a penalty.
