Connecticut has received a second philanthropic donation for education during the shutdown of schools. Governor Ned Lamont says it will make remote learning possible for students in districts that don’t have such resources.
Lamont says his longtime friend and Greenwich neighbor, Indra Nooyi and her husband Raj, will donate take-home books from Scholastic that will provide reading and writing instruction to more than 185,000 pre-kindergarten to 8th graders. He says this would help students make the best use of their time at home.
“Make sure that our kids have a new way of learning, our teachers have a new way of teaching. And make sure this is not four, or six lost months, but an opportunity to make the best of a bad situation.”
On Monday the state’s education partnership with the Dalio Foundation announced the donation of 60,000 laptops for high school students who cannot afford their own computers for online learning.
