'Stay Home' Rules In Effect In Connecticut And New York

New York Governor's Office
Governor Cuomo at a COVID briefing last week.

Here’s the latest on the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak in this region:

New York has close to 150 deaths. The state has exceeded 15,000 confirmed cases. Connecticut has at least eight deaths due to the coronavirus, and reports 223 confirmed cases. 140 are in Fairfield County.

There are at least 1,034 cases in Suffolk, 1,800 in Westchester, and 1,900 in Nassau County. However local municipalities have reported additional cases since the last state update yesterday afternoon, so there may be a discrepancy.

President Trump authorized activation of the National Guard, and will send medical supplies to New York. FEMA will build four hospital units at the Jacob Javits center. Each will house 250 patients.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo plans to expand hospital capacity with field hospitals at Stony Brook University, SUNY Old Westbury, the Javits Center, and the Westchester County Center.

Governor Ned Lamont wants Connecticut residents to sign up for statewide text message alerts on COVID-19 at ctalert.gov. He issued the first one last night.
