New London Submarine Base Enacts Coronavirus Mitigation Measures

The Naval Submarine Base in New London has put in place policies to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

Captain Todd Moore, the base commanding officer, made the announcement in a message to station personnel.

“Leave, liberty and personal travel outside of the local area as defined by commanding officers and officers-in-charge may not be authorized. Review of these requests with your chain of command, especially if you have a family emergency, they will define the local area and discuss the possibility of any exceptions.”

Navy staff and sailors must adhere to a new travel restriction and movement policy authorized by the U.S. Department of Defense.

Moore says if the coronavirus situation gets worse, he will consider closing the base to “mission essential personnel only.”
