Here’s the latest on the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak in this region:
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont says 10,000 people filed for unemployment on Monday. He says during a recession, they usually process 5,000 applications per week.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says the state urgently needs to build hospital capacity in the next 45 days, and needs federal help to do so.
New York has at least 12 deaths due to the coronavirus. Three in Suffolk County, one in Nassau County.
The number of confirmed cases in New York is up to at least 1,374, with at least 84 in Suffolk, 131 in Nassau, and 380 in Westchester.
Connecticut has at least 68 cases of the coronavirus. The majority of the cases are in Fairfield County.
Classes at the University of Connecticut will remain online for the rest of the spring semester and commencement ceremonies in May are canceled.
