Nassau County has declared a state of emergency in response to the coronavirus. This gives the county access to emergency spending and the ability to temporarily close public facilities.

Nassau County will temporarily end enforcement of its towing and boot programs and close the Traffic and Parking Violations Agency to the public. The sheriff’s office will also stop eviction enforcement.

County Executive Laura Curran says government-owned recreational facilities and museums will also be closed to keep the virus contained.

“We have to slow, curtail, to stop the spread of COVID-19. That is the biggest issue right now, is to prevent that spread from happening.”

The emergency declaration has to be renewed every five days.
