Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone plans to issue an order that limits how police officers interact with people who may be exposed to the coronavirus.

Bellone says police officers would not accompany emergency medical services into situations where they’d be exposed to coronavirus unless they are absolutely needed.

“One of the important things that we have to do, that we continue to discuss, is how do we best protect those who are on the front line. This is a real challenge, this is a significant challenge.”

Police will also have access to state-manufactured hand sanitizer. The county will also deliver hand sanitizer to nursing homes for older residents who are most at risk for the coronavirus.
