Nassau County health officials have taken extra steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Those steps include new isolation rooms and extra bed space at a local hospital.

Nassau health officials are working with state and federal partners, as well as coordinating with local municipalities and the Nassau University Medical Center, to prepare for the coronavirus.

County Executive Laura Curran says right now residents can go about their day-to-day schedule.

“At this point, there is no reason to change your habits. You can continue going to work, continue going to school. Please go to restaurants. I know there was reluctance for people to go to Chinese restaurants. There is absolutely no danger. You can go eat at your favorite Chinese restaurant.”

Health officials say people should continue to wash their hands and sanitize their phones.

There have been no confirmed cases of coronavirus in Nassau or Suffolk County.
