Backup Gas Service Plans Unnecessary Due To Warm Winter, National Grid Says

National Grid has not used its emergency gas shortage measures this winter that they said were necessary to meet a growing demand.

The utility company prepared for a potential gas shortage with demand-reduction programs and by finding additional gas supply.

This was after nearly a yearlong moratorium on gas hook-ups that was lifted because of pressure from New York State.

A spokesperson for National Grid says they didn’t have to activate their emergency plans because of higher-than-average temperatures in recent months.

Climate activists said National Grid exaggerated the demand for gas and implemented the moratorium to get support to build a new natural gas pipeline.
