This week, freshman U.S. Rep. Laura Gillen (NY-4) made her debut speech on the U.S. House of Representatives floor.

In her first address, the Democrat outlined key priorities for her term.

"We need to address the cost-of-living crisis, secure our border, and give hardworking Long Islanders a middle-class tax cut by reinstating the full SALT deduction," Gillen said.

Her remarks come as the Republican members of Long Island’s congressional delegation have already met with President-elect Donald Trump to discuss removing the cap on state and local tax deductions, a measure Gillen supports.

Additionally, Gillen will serve on two House committees: Transportation & Infrastructure and Science, Space & Technology.
