Justin E. Bell Brings The Wonder Of Space To His Soundtrack For 'The Outer Worlds'

Obsidian Entertainment

The Outer Worlds, from Obsidian Entertainment, lets players choose their own adventure on hostile planets, and solve problems (or make new ones) for the settlers there. Composer Justin E. Bell tells me that his soundtrack is filled with the wonder of space exploration, and inspired by the character of the planets and strange creatures you encounter in the game.

Justin balanced the different musical styles of ambient background music, along with the lonesome West style of music from the Cohen brothers' film True Grit to create a sound that's uniquely his own. He said he feels most comfortable writing music in his own style, while infusing it with hints of other genres.

Justin is also Obsidian's audio director, so he was involved in the development of the game from its very beginnings. He created the audio design so it would dovetail with the music, and worked with the voice actors, all of whom turned in stellar performances.
