The long dark night, the promise of lighter days ahead -- the Winter Solstice stirs our most primal emotions. Each December, Paul Winter gathers an esteemed group of musicians from around the world at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, to welcome a new season.
John Schaefer hosts the 25th-anniversary celebration of a public radio tradition: Paul Winter's unique exploration of the solstice tradition in cultures near and far. The Paul Winter Consort is joined by musicians from Russia, Ireland, and Zimbabwe, including special guests The Dmitri Pokrovsky Ensemble, piper Davy Spillane, gospel singer Teresa Thomason, and mbira wizard Chris Berry.
