A real mixed bag of a program: A wonderful 10-minute ballad from Atwater-Donnelly from nearby Rhode Island, music from outstanding performers from the Pacific Northwest and two wry monologues from Les Barker of England for the first hour.

In the second hour, I offered a final chorus for famous bluesman John Lee Hooker who died in California June 21 at age 83. Hooker, with his signature blues growl, enjoyed a 60-year career and was a major influence on countless musicians. He was a contemporary of post-World War II electric bluesmen Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Willie Dixon and Sonny Boy Williamson and during his career was accorded major awards and recognition for his contributions to American music.

The night finished with blues from new albums by Rick Fines of Ontario, Canada and Jon Shain of North Carolina.
