Federal investigators say the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London retaliated against a black female officer who complained about harassment and bullying.
The unidentified officer is an instructor at the academy. She complained she faced a hostile work environment based in part on race and gender. The Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general found she received bad marks on an evaluation as a result of the complaint.
The report offered several recommendations, including supplemental training for Coast Guard supervisors and managers on the agency's discrimination, harassment, and bullying policies.
The academy did not immediately respond to phone messages for comment Wednesday.
