Sunday afternoons are special on WSHU. Every week, David Bouchier puts a different spin on classical music - anecdotes about the great composers, poetry, musical history, and even musical jokes. Sunday Matinée may explore the hidden links between music and literature, composers' letters, music for a special season of the year, or music designed to make you think. Whatever the theme, David Bouchier gives classical music a new dimension on Sunday afternoons.
In classical music, as in everything else, the big names get all the attention. But fine music was written by hundreds of less famous composers whose names don't spring easily to mid, or even to the lips - Vorisek and Fibich for example - who never made it into the classical hall of fame. On this Memorial Day weekend we'll remember a dozen of these unsung heroes of composition - and you'll be pleasantly surprised by the music, which includes grand symphonies, and come very attractive quartets, overtures and concertos.
Among the highlights (subject to change):
- Karl Ditters Von Dittersdorf: Symphony No. 4 in F
- Jean Baptiste Vanhal: Six Variations
- J.Michael Haydn: Symphony No. 39 in C
