The New WSHU-FM HD Transmitter

The two new solid state transmitters installed at the WSHU transmitter site. The one on the right handles the analog portion of the signal, the left hand transmitter generates both the analog and digital signals. They are combined in the long black box above that transmitters. I'll add pictures of the internal workings soon

A close up view of the combiner and antenna switch that allows us to put the old transmitter back on the air as a backup in an emergency. The 1 5/8 inch copper pipe is actually the antenna feed line.

The Continental 816R will get a much needed rest and overhaul after more than 18 years of continuous service with no down time except for planned maintenance. It will serve as a backup for emergency use.
This is a graph from an instrument known as a spectrum analyzer. It shows WSHU’s transmitted signal(yellow). The jagged peak in the center is the conventional analog signal. The flat platforms to the right and left is the new HD transmission. It all must fit under the white line to comply with FCC rules.
