Intern Program

Maintain internship program. Use Media Studies; Broadcast Journalism; and    Students and train news and broadcast skills for course credit.

 

Paid Intern Program

Establishment and implementation of an Intern Program. Use SHU Media Study Students and train news and broadcast skills for course credit.

 

Paid Intern Program

Establishment and implementation of an Intern Program. Use SHU Marketing and Management Students and train marketing and promotions skills for course credit.

 

Career Training / Job Shadowing

Work with local High Schools to offer 1 day job shadowing and information days for groups of students interested in Broadcast Careers

 

Job Fairs

Co hosted a Job Fair for Radio and TV applicants and regularly participate in 2 job fairs a year.

 

Scout Communication Badge

Worked with local Cub Scout leaders (BSA) to establish a 2 hour program for the completion of the Communication Badge (Includes station tour; equipment training; and job opportunity information

 

Staff Training

Establishment and implementation of a Staff Training program.  Send Broadcast professionals to a variety of local, regional and national workshops and conferences to improve skills.

 

Mentoring

Establishment and implementation of a Mentoring Program. WSHU News Director, under the auspices of The Public Radio News Directors Assoc. mentors personnel at various stations to improve news skills, including interview techniques, writing and production skills.  Attends and mentors students attending the Unity Conference for minority broadcasters and the Society of Black Journalists.

 

 

 

 

Dissemination of employment opportunities

WSHU has compiled the following to disseminate job opportunities.

All upper level jobs are listed through various web sites e-mail list serves and print opportunities of CPB, NPR, The Connecticut Broadcasters Assoc., NAB Career Center; SHU, and WSHU's locally hosted web site.

In addition WSHU prepared a mailing list for information on employment opportunities. When appropriate WSHU will mail notification and job descriptions to the following organizations:
