WSHU's Monday morning essayist, David Bouchier was born in London in 1939, and received a PhD from the London School of Economics. He lives in Suffolk County, Long Island, with his wife Diane, who is a professor of sociology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and their two cats, Elizabeth Barrett Brown Ears, and Robert Red Cat. David has also taught sociology and media studies at Stony Brook, at Suffolk County Community College, and at Hofstra University, the University of Connecticut at Storrs, and the University of California at Santa Cruz. He is a regular workshop leader at the University of Iowa Summer Writing Festival, and has lectured at writers' conferences all over the United States. Since 1992, he has been producing his weekly radio essays for WSHU and for ten years contributed a humor column called "Out of Order" to the Long Island section of the Sunday New York Times. Both the radio essays and the columns have received Press Club awards for excellence.
